The Mask Of Gold
Chapter One To the land of the Incas

Leila was an Egyptian archaeologist she came back to Cairo after her adventurous journey in Peru with Dr. Hafez . She was part of UNESCO exchange programme . When she woke in the morning, she couldn’t know where she was. The familiar sounds she heard
1 - children playing in the street.
2- a man selling melons
assured that she was in Egypt not in peru .She was happy because she was safe with her parents
There was a photo on the table beside her bed . It was her photo, in it she was
looking at the camera and holding up a little gold figure of an animal.( Ilama ). The photo reminded Liela of agood day in Peru . It was a good day because every thing was going well and she discovered the gold figure of Ilama.

Two months ago ; Leila started her adventurous journey to Peru . Samira drove her to the airport. The road to the airport was crowded. Luckily they had set off early..
Leila and her sister Samira are completely different characters. Samira was funny but Leila was worried about everything.
Leila was excited because she had not been to South America before. Leila spent the night before traveling packing her luggage.

Samira advised Leila to tell Dr.Hafez to take care of her because the excavation was high up in mountains and she didn't want her to fall off mountains . Leila told Samira that
1- The Incas were tough as they lived at high altitudes.
2 - The Incas didn’t have any writing but they controlled a huge empire.
3 - The Incas conquered the Chimo who were famous for their gold and silver work.
Leila took a small laser machine and some papers about the work in Peru
The laser machine should be kept secret because they wanted to be the first to use it.
Samira was a reporter on a newspaper in Cairo . She was always looking for good articles for her newspaper.
Some headlines such as "Secrets of an Inca tomb" and "Egyptian archaeologists find Inca Treasure" were good titles for her articles.

At the airport Leila checked in for her flight. Samira hugged and kissed her. Leila promised to be in touch with Samira by sending her a postcard or an email.
