If you define APPLICANT, you`ll find out that it gives almost an identical meaning

If any student wrote APPLICANT as an answer, no one would dare check it WRONG

The applicant is a person who applies, as for a job, grant, support / a person who requests or seeks something such as assistance or employment or admission so the word applicant can be used correctly and properly in this question . i'm for ur view point , sir but I only refer to the teacher's Guide answer.
