والسؤال ليه استخدم to inf بعد prefer فى هذا السياق
اليس v ing form هى الاصح؟

ولكن سؤالى هو ليه الجملة prefer to وليست prefer ing

I just want to add that when we use Prefer to compare between to actions or things it must be followed by
Noun or V+ing
Ex : I prefer reading to swimming
Or :I prefer mathsto science

As for the sentece mentioned
prefer to here means want to so it is followed by inf

OR

'Would rather' and 'prefer to' do not require any specific further structure.

i think it was written taht way beacause we are talking here in general not specific time ..
so prefer + v.inf if it came would ,generally or at present
