واستقبل حماس المتشدد محمد عبد الهادي من قبل أحد الأقارب عند وصوله إلى منزله في خان يونس في جنوب قطاع غزة 30 يناير 2011، بعد فرارهم من السجن في القاهرة أبو زعبل كما داهمت ذلك يوم السبت من قبل الغوغاء المصري وسط انتشار الفوضى في العاصمة المصرية. أغلقت مصر معبر مع قطاع غزة يوم الاحد في الوقت الذي امتدت الاحتجاجات البلاد إلى المنطقة الحدودية، وهرب ناشط فلسطيني سجن القاهرة إلى القطاع الذي تسيطر عليه الاسلامية
