Where have you been all this time? And why did you choose something you know nothing about? Have you been living on a desert island? You belong to a school, don't you? There are books that you should have bought and comprehension passages that you should have read and certain language functions that you should have studied intensively. You expected a few sheets of paper that you could study, right? Well it is not that easy. English is not geography. However, I might make your life easier after 2nd secondary get their exams. I might post some material that could help once the time allows
Take care

[5. ](a) -Read the following passage then answer the questions4marks)
In recent years, concern about the environment has been growing. The public has become aware of many common, dangerous dumping practices. These practices, some of which have been going on for years, have increased as the population has grown. Recently publicity has drawn public attention to one form of environmental pollution-the dumping of hazardous chemical wastes. These wastes include heavy metals (such as mercury) and other by-products of technology. Such chemicals cause cancer, brain damage, and high infant mortality rates.
Dumping of the wastes is difficult to supervise. And, in fact, even careful dumping has resulted in the destruction of whole areas.
When wastes are first put into a dump, they are usually sealed in large metal drums. As time passes, the metal rusts, and the waste materials begin to leak out into the surrounding soil. This has two effects on the environment. First, the local soil is often permanently destroyed and it must be removed. Second, the chemical waste can sink lower and lower into the soil and reach the water tables deep in the earth's surface.
Answer the following questions:
1- Why have the dangerous dumping practices increased?
2- What diseases do chemical wastes cause?
3- How many forms of wastes are there in the passage?
4- What do you think the best solution is?

Thanks to electricity, the work of the housewife has changed dramatically. Nowadays, if the electricity supply is cut off, many homes come to a standstill .The lights go out, the heat goes off and households machines, designed to make life easy, stop working.
Take the kitchen. Today, we can prepare a meal in a microwave oven in minutes without making any mess. But, in the past, preparing the day's food used to keep many people busy from early in the morning until at night - and cleaning up afterwards was a nightmare' (There was no running water.) In the past, chickens were not oven-ready packets of meat: they came with their feathers and heads, freshly killed. Vegetables did not use to come in convenient plastic bags from the freezer, ready to be dropped into boiling water in the pot. They came muddy from the garden and it took time to prepare them for the table.
All the family's clothes and the household linen-tablecloths, table napkins, bed linen - used to be made and washed by hand, and housewives also had to find time to bake and make jam, marmalade arid other preservers - all without the help of modern machines.

Most people don’t understand what a cold is, what causes it or why it is so difficult for doctors to cure. Colds are caused by small particles, called viruses. While bacteria can be studied under an ordinary light microscope, the structure of viruses was a mystery until the invention of the electronic microscope in the 1930s. Viruses are parasites: they cannot exist or function without the help of a living cell. Cold viruses are carried by small droplets of water in the air. When you breathe in, these viruses are drawn in and infect the cells of the throat- consequently, you catch a cold.
The cells which line the throat produce a sticky liquid (called w mucus') which is constantly pushed up towards the nose by the movement of small hairs. In this way, unwanted particles which we breathe in can be removed, otherwise our lungs would fill up with dust and dirt. Infected cells produce a lot of mucus, so that we have to sneeze and cough to get it out. Although there are many things you can buy to make you feel better, only time and your own body will cure your cold..
