:1-When and where was Charles Dickens born?He was born in 1812in the south of England.

2-Why was his father went to prison? His father went to prison because he had got into debt.

3-Why did Charles go to London? Charles went to London to earn money for his family.

4-What did he see in London? He saw how hard life was for poor people.

5-How did Charles make use of this hard time in London? Many of the ideas for the stories of his novels and the characters in them came from this time.

6-what did he do in 1834? In 1834, he started work as a newspaper journalist. He was also writing magazine stories about life in London.

7-What did Charles write in 1838? He wrote his novel "Oliver Twist "in 1838.

8-What does Dickens show in "Oliver Twist"? Dickens shows the dark side of the 19th century London.

9- Where did Oliver grow up? Why? Oliver grew up in a workhouse because his mother had died when he was born.

10-Why did Mr. Brownlow stop the police from arresting Oliver? Because he was kind hearted man and he wanted to give Oliver a chance to start a new life.

11-What do the homeless children in Oliver Twist look like in your society? They look like street children who have no parents or suffer very hard life.

12-Why did Oliver become a thief? Oliver had to obey Fagin and be one of the gang of thieves because he had no family or a place to live in

13-Why was Oliver punished when he asked for more food? Oliver was punished because he dared to ask for more food .It was a big mistake of him.

14- Compare between Charles Dickens and Naguib Mahfouz as writers. Both write about poor and common people in London and Cairo.

15-What does a child need to grow well and healthy? A child needs loving parents, health care, good food and proper education.

Write what you would say in each of the following situations:1-You feel pity for the street children. Tell your friend what the government should do for them.- What a pity. The government should do something to help those street children.

2-Tell your teacher about your idea to act the story of Oliver Twist. Suggest taking the role of Oliver.- What about making Oliver into a play, Sir? I can act the role of Oliver.

3-You saw a thief trying to rob an old man .Shout to warn the old man. - Stop! a thief. He is stealing your money, Sir.

4-You interview your headmaster or headmistress for the school magazine. - I would like to have an interview with you for the school magazine, Sir.
