يروى عن تشوان – تسو الحكيم الصيني الذي عاش في القرن الرابع قبل الميلاد أنه خرج يوما لصيد السمك في نهر من أنهار ولاية تشو. وإذ هو لاهٍ بالصيد أقبل عليه كبيران من كبراء الدولة وباحتشام كلي أطلعاه على رغبة أمير البلاد في اسناد منصب سام اليه . لأن البلاد في حاجة إلى حكمته . فمضى الحكيم في صيده ومن غير أن يلتفت إلى الرسولين أجاب :
" سمعت أن في قصر الأمير ، على الم*** المكرس لتكريم الأسلاف ، سلحفاة مقدسة مضى على موتها ثلاثة آلاف سنة . وأن الأمير يغالي في تقديسها فيحفظها محنطة في صندوقة من الذهب الابريز . فما قولكما في تلك السلحفاة لو أنها خيرت اليوم ما بين أن تكون ميتة ومحنطة في صندوقة من الذهب أو أن تكون حية تجرجر ذيلها في الأوحال ، فأي من الأمرين تختار ؟ "
فأجابه الرسولان – إنها من غير شك ، تختار أن تكون حية تجرجر ذيلها في الأوحال . عندئذ صاح بهما تشوان – تسو :
" أغربا عني : فأنا كذلك أختار أن أجرجر أذيالي في الأوحال".
