" Journey to the Centre of the Earth" Summary
Summaryملخص
First Term: Chapters 1-5
Professor Lidenbrock looked at an old book which was a translation of a famous Icelandic book . A piece of parchment fell out of the book . It was written in runes . Professor Lidenbrock couldn't understand its writing , but his nephew Axel understood it. Lidenbrock thought that it was written by a famous Icelandic scientist called ArneSaknussemm . At first Axel didn't want to tell his uncle that he understood what was written on the parchment because his uncle would go on the dangerous journey and take Axel with him . .P.L decided to go to Iceland , and then to Sneffels . He and Axel packed guns , tools and instruments into their boxes . When they went to Iceland , they met Dr. Fridrikson . He told them that Sneffels had not erupted for .the last six hundred years . A guide called Hans would take them to, Sneffels . They went and climbed Sneffels . They reached its crater . They saw a large rock with the letters A.S on it. They descended the chimney and P.L. said that the : centre of the Earth can't be hot as all scientists think .They set off on the next stage of the journey . They entered a small passage'. They saw the lava. At the end of the passage . there were two paths . P.L. took the eastern path . It was going up , not. down , so it was difficult and they were tired . They saw some plants and animals preserved in the rocks .
P.L. used his scientific instruments to calculate their position . Suddenly Axel turned around and he didn't find his Uncle or Hans . He was lost. He ran back shouting like a mad man . At last he fell on the floor and fainted.
