1- He could get control over the problem. This means he could...... it
a.conquer b.capture c.defeat d.beat conquer = get over sth 2-Have you spent.....all money I lent you last week. a.the b.no article c.a d.an We cannot put THE before ALL; we also cannot put neither A nor An as money is uncountable. 3-Can you pass me.....sugar, please? a.the b.no article c.a d.an The sugar is a specific thing here (the one on the table) 4-The boy was.....with a straw. a.tied b.chained c.joined d.rescued The whole sentence doesn`t give a complete meaning especially with the indefinite article "A" put before STRAW. Without A, it should be TIED. 5-We should know the main.....of pollution. a.cause b.reason c.goal d.purpose OF is used after CAUSE and it is the word that completes the meaning 6-On the island, the boys will.....groups to search for food. a.do b.make c.divide d.organise According to the Hello Book, "ORGANISE" is the right answer. But I think MAKE would give a correct meaning, too. Divide should be followed by INTO in this sense. We cannot DO groups. 7-Older people can pass....their experiences and knowledge to younger ones. a.to b.of c.out d.on Old generations pass on knowledge to younger generations Find the mistake: 1-A businessman manager decides on the price of a magazine. 2-The smallest room in our house is the kitchen. 3-We were in a very tight corner. Escape looked impossible. 4-I dislike modern music most. This is the best meaning I tried to find 5-More people live in cities than in the country. 6-Reham is the eldest of the three girls. 7-Wear old clothes when you are painting. This is the best meaning I tried to find Best Regards |

In Hello SB page 93, you will find this sentence
There are thousands of ……………. (history) sites all over Egypt. Correct the word between brackets The answer in Hello TB Page 264 is historic/historical Then the author adds saying: These words are often used interchangeably and dictionaries vary on their usage. Last year, may be in August, I posted a comment on Longman Official Site under the same question. They disagreed with my definitions. But it is worth reading the whole thing. Here it is http://www.longmansec.com.eg/QuestAns.aspx?QA_ID=93 and another one as well http://www.longmansec.com.eg/QuestAns.aspx?QA_ID=349 The writer`s answer was based originally on Hello!7 (The old Book), before the New Book was officially published. The confusion goes on with other pairs such as: classic / classical magic / magical electric / electrical Best Regards |

Notice that I`ve corrected it by adding IT at the end of the sentence.
Longman Dictionary of Contemporary English defines conquer as follows: (v.) to gain control over something that is difficult, using a lot of effort These words were part of the sentence I gave the student the simple meaning get over something Which one do you think is right? Best Regards |
