I have some questions about some sentences taken from Hello English, secondary two, unit one. A) A surgeon is someone who performs operations in hospital. In the early 1980s, he was part of the team which did the first heart transplant. Why didn't the writer put "a" before "hospital" and before "part"? SenderSayed AhmedPositionTeacher ده الــــــــــــــــــــرد (A) I have not been able to find this sentence in the book. Can you please tell me what page it is on, in the TG, B, or WB? It should, of course, be a hospital or hospitals, and we will correct it in the next printing if the error is there. I cannot find the sentence. ( It is possible to say a part of the team but it is more idiomatic to say part of the team. So the sentence is correct as is. المطـــــــــــــــوب هل تتفق ام تختلف مع الحل ولماذا ؟؟؟؟؟؟ لطرح اسئلة أو التعليق علي فنيات في المنهج

To Whom it may concern
محتاجين نتناقش ونبحث ده سؤال طرحته للنقاش من فترة أعترض فيه علي استخدام حرف جر قبل الظرف ولكن اغلب الردود اكدت امكانية هذا ...........! It's hot in here وارسلت السؤال الي موقع لونجمان وكان الرد مقنع جدا .!!!!! منتظر تعليق http://www.thanwya.com/vb/showthread.php?t=149609 Could you explain this sentence in detail? It's hot in here. Why don't we say It's hot here. Is there a difference? Editor's reply:
In the first sentence, here is a noun (meaning "the present place or juncture"), not an adverb. You say It's hot in here if you're talking about an enclosed place such as a room, tent, or building. In the second sentence, here is an adverb (meaning "at this point or in this location"). You say It's hot here if you're talking about an open place such as a garden, city, or country. |

لا اتفق مع هذا الحل ( المصدر Practical English Usage In some common fixed expressions to do with place, time and

شاكر جدا لحضرتك يا مستر
مطلوب تعليق ده السؤال Sec 2 WB p 34 ex. 1, number 1: "1970 was the year when/that my mother was born." Can "that" replace "when" without a preposition? I mean, shouldn't the sentence be "1970 was the year that my mother was born in"? Please clarify. Thanks ده رد المحرر Yes, it is perfectly OK to use that here without a preposition. One of the meanings of that as a pronoun is "at which; in which; on which; with which; to which". That works within the relative cause not only as a substitute for the noun, but also "to express a relation of conformity, agreement, or identity, especially in reference to time." (Merriam-Webster Unabridged Dictionary) بجد رائع

I think the following sentences are both correct: "1970 was the year when my mother was born "1970 was the year that my mother was born in When we use relative pronouns, we can use "where" as well as "which in or in which" with places whereas we can use "when"as well as " which on/in", "on/in which','that in/on "with adverb of time EX-1- Alexandria is the place where I was born 2- Alexandria is the place which I was born in 3- Alexandria is the place in which I was born 4- January is the month when I was born 5- January is the month that I was born in 6-Monday is the day when my wife goes shopping 7- Monday is the day which my wife goes shopping on 8- Monday is the day that my wife goes shopping on |

سؤال رائع
Can "during" be followed by v + ing or a noun only الرد During can only be followed by a noun. During the summer, during lunch, etc. Sometimes the verb + ing acts like a noun. It is then called a gerund. During can sometimes be followed by a gerund, for example During filming, the main actor had an accident. But this doesn't work with all gerunds (I can't say "during eating"). So you may see such gerunds in your reading, but it is best to avoid them in your own work unless you're sure that the usage is correct. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
