- Leila was an Egyptian archaeologist. She was a research assistant in Cairo university. She joined the UNESCO exchange programme to help Dr Hafez in his excavation of one of the chimu kings’ tomb.
2- What made her realize that she was in Cairo?
- the familiar sounds of the neighbourhood ;children playing football, the call of a man selling melon and her sister’s work in the kitchen.
3-what made Leila remember her journey to Peru?
The picture of her holding the Llama animal .she remembered the good day when she discovered it and the bad days after so she felt a shiver.

4- What did Leila take with her to Peru two month before?
- A laser machine and some papers.
5- What did they use the machine for?
dating things made of wood or cloth.

the latest development in archaeology made by archaeologists in Cairo.

11- Why didn’t Leila fly directly from Cairo to Lima?
- There wasn’t a direct flight from Cairo to Lima.
12-Where did she fly first?
- she flew to New York. She spent the night in the airport hotel then she took another flight to lima.

13-How did Martin introduce himself?
- he said he was a mining engineer. But he doesn’t look her silver or copper but he was looking for more interesting things. He was American but he was born in south Africa.

- because when she was young, she used to listen to Dr Hafez talking about his work and he used to show them pictures .
15-Why didn’t she study in Cairo university and studied in the Italian institute of archaeology?
- As people might have thought Dr Hafez was giving her special treatment as he was a family friend.
16-Why did Leila suspect Martin?
- as he asked her a lot of questions and looked into her papers when she was asleep.

- because she explained to them she was part of the UNESCO exchange programme and showed them some papers.

- as he denied meeting him before.

- as he spoke to the people in Peru in English. Sometime, understanding became difficult. So he wanted Leila to help him

- both of them put food, drink gold object, gold figures of animals with their kings. They also dressed the kings in fine clothes . why?
As they believed the king and the queens would need these things in the next world.

- the Incas put mummified kings on litters and went through streets.
- They used to kill women and servant and buried them with kings to look after them in the second world.

- He worked for the united mining but he got involved with some people who took Inca things out of the country and sold them to rich collectors so he was dismissed
27-What did Amalia do that angered Leila when they first met?
- she offered to carry Dr Hafez ‘s baggage and didn’t offer help to Leila although Leila had much more baggage

- as Dr Hafez Hated driving especially in a foreign country

- she suffered from jet – lag.

They let the chimu kings rule but they took their children to Cuzco the, Incas capital, to make sure their fathers were loyal.

- she said that Leila came to Peru as Dr. Hafez was a family friend.

- she said that she came to Peru because of her experience

- to please gods.

- he worked for the Peruvian ministry of culture and was in the committee that give reports to the UNESCO about the project. He wrote a note about every thing they find in the site.

- to get his computer fixed.

- Leila and Amalia. It was a chance for Leila to see the sights. And Amalia went to drive a car as Dr. Hafez didn’t like driving in a foreign city.

- As it was the first time for that exchange to happen.

- As the UNESCO would support the project for a year if they found something important.

- because she saw her sitting with Martin Lander

- she drove his truck a shard as she could. She hit the plane and knocked it on its side. Lander’s head was hit he was knocked out.

- to thank the village people and show Dr Hafez the new site.
