Will you catch a cold if you go to bed with wet hair?


Despite what your mom may have told you when you were younger, you will not catch a cold from going to bed with your hair wet. Dr. Charles Smith, of the Family and Preventative Medicine Department at UAMS, said that there is no medical evidence to prove that this is true.

Wet hair does not cause a cold. Colds are infections of the upper respiratory tract caused by viruses. More than 200 viruses can cause colds; rhinoviruses are the most common cause of colds. The virus generally moves from someone else’s hands to your hands (either directly or through some intermediate surface like a doorknob), and from your hands into your nose or eyes.
