Chapter (1)

1-Where were a team of archaeologists asleep?
They were asleep in tents in the WesternDesert.
2-What were the archaeologists doing in the desert?
They were excavating some hidden tombs.
3-Who were the four robbers?
They were foreigners: an old man, a small man, a tall strong man and a shorter strong man.
4-How did the robbers disguise themselves?
They fixed local number plates to the land cruisers. They switched off the lights of the cars.
5- Where did the cars stop? Why?
They stopped two hundred metres from the tents. They didn't want anyone to see or hear them.
6-Where did the four men go?
They climbed down into an underground passage.
7-What did they do to see around them?
They switched on their torches.
8-What were on the walls of the passage?
There were paintings and writings from 3000 years ago.
9-What did the archaeologists find?
They found two underground rooms full of treasures and gold objects.
10-What did they do with the treasures?
They sent them to a museum in Cairo.
11-What was in the first room?
There were five ancient Egyptian mummies in the first room.
12-What were the four men searching for?
They were searching for other rooms containing gold.
13-What equipment did the men use to see through walls?
They used the (GPR).
14-What does the 'GPR' stand for?
'GPR' stands for 'ground Penetrating Radar'.
15-What would the machine that the small man carried show them?
It would show them rooms behind the walls.
16-How did the machine show them what was behind the wall?
It sends radio waves through the wall. When the waves hit something on the other side, they come back to it. The computer changes the radio waves into a picture.
17-How did the big man break through the wall?
He used a pickaxe and a heavy hammer.
18-What hung from the ceiling of the passage?
Very great spiders’ webs hung from the ceiling of the passage.
19-What was at the end of the passage?
Two gold doors were at the end of the passage.
20-What covered the oldest man’s face?
A huge spider’s web covered the oldest man’s face.
21-What did the room which they broke into contain?
It contained gold and other treasures.
22-Why did the big man shout in pain?
He shouted in pain because spiders were biting him.
23-How did the tall man try to keep the spiders away?
He took off his jacket and hit the spiders with it.

He was bitten on his leg.

They took them to their cars.

They had all been bitten by the spiders.

He believed there weren’t any deadly spiders in Egypt.

Because he thought there weren't any deadly spiders in modern Egypt.
29- How did the four men feel as they drove through the desert?
They felt very sick and thirsty.
30- Where did the big man see four spiders after they got out of the tomb?
He saw them in the boxes in the back of the car.
31- Who were in the helicopter?
A pilot, a telecom engineer and a technician were in the helicopter.
32- Why did the helicopter fly over that place?
It was on the way to a transmitter which had a technical problem.

He flew the helicopter round in a circle. Then, he brought it down.

They found the four men dead.

He thought they died of thirst.

The engineer suggested getting on the radio to ask for help. So the pilot left the car where the spiders had been.

They died because they couldn't survive the heat. The cars were like ovens.

They drove them to a new town called Hamdayya, south west of Cairo.

It was still alive.

Because they died of the spiders' bites and the police got the treasures.

No, because they have been underground for thousands of years and no one knows about them.
