Noise can be defined as any sound that causes annoyance. It is caused by sonic booms, discos, and the various industrial processes. It is known that noise has bad effects on our bodies. It damages hearing and causes deafness. It causes inflammation of the lining of the stomach and the brain. Noise also makes the blood vessels constrict. It cuts down the blood supply to the heart. It dilates the retina of the eye, causing colour blindness and inaccurate vision. Loudness of noise is measured in units known as decibels. People regularly exposed to levels over 80 decibels are risking their health. A jet plane can cause danger to ears as it produces noise to the level of 140 decibels at 30 metres.
