من أعظم المسرحيات التى قمت بتدرسها لفترة طويلة
أحبها جدا لما بها من لمسة أدبية بارعة فى رسم الشخصيات خاصة شخصية (الأم) Kate Keller
أحبها أيضا لأنها لاتخاطب جيل معين فى زمن معين - المسرحية تخاطب جميع الأجيال فى كل العصور

سوف أبدأ عرض هذه المسرحية هنا - لكن لأهدف إفادة الطلاب فقط بهذا العمل ومساعدتهم للحصول على درجات فى الامتحان

مأريده هو عرض طريقة للتعامل مع المسرحية كجزء من المنهج

ثم أرغب فى قراءة تعليقات على العمل والمناقشة على أهم النقاط (السلبية قبل الايجابية) فى العمل الأدبى المطروح

والأهم جذب محبى الأدب فى التعليقات بآرائهم وخبراتهم - لذا سأحاول ترجمة أجزاء مختلفة للتواصل مع أى قارئ وليس فقط الطلاب ومدرسى مدارس اللغات ومدرسى اللغة

Introduction

The action of the play is set in August 1947, in the mid-west of the U.S.A. The events depicted occur between Sunday morning and a little after two o'clock the following morning.
Joe Keller, the chief character, is a man who loves his family above all else, and has sacrificed everything, including his honour, in his struggle to make the family a rich one. He is now sixty-one. He has lost one son in the war, and is keen to see his remaining son, Chris, marry. Chris wishes to marry Ann, the former fiancée of his brother, Larry. Their mother, Kate, believes Larry still to be alive. It is this belief which has enabled her, for three and a half years, to support Joe by concealing her knowledge of a terrible crime he has committed.
Arthur Miller, the playwright, found the idea for Joe's crime in a true story, which occurred during the second world war: a manufacturer knowingly shipped out defective parts for tanks. These had suffered mechanical failures which had led to the deaths of many soldiers. The fault was discovered, and the manufacturer was brought to court. In All My Sons, Miller examines the morality of the man who places his narrow responsibility to his family above his wider responsibility to the men who died because of his deed.

Three and a half years before the events of the play, Larry Keller was reported missing in action, while flying a mission off the coast of China.
His father, Joe Keller, was head of a business which made aero engine parts. When, one night, the production line began to turn out *****ed cylinder heads, the night foreman alerted Joe's deputy manager, Steve Deever as he arrived at work. Steve telephoned Joe at home, to ask what to do. Worried by the lost production and not seeing the consequences of his decision, Joe told Steve to weld over the *****s. He said that he would take responsibility for this, but could not come in to work, as he had influenza. Several weeks later twenty-one aeroplanes crashed on the same day, killing the pilots.
Investigation revealed the fault in the cylinder heads, and Steve and Joe were arrested and convicted. On appeal, Joe denied Steve's (true) version of events, convinced the court he knew nothing of what had happened, and was released from prison. Before his last flight, Larry wrote to his fiancée, Ann, Steve's daughter. He had read of his father's and Steve's arrest. Now he was planning suicide.
Three and a half years later, Ann has told no-one of this letter. Kate Keller knows her husband to be guilty of the deaths of the pilots and has convinced herself that Larry is alive. She will not believe him dead, as this involves the further belief that Joe has caused his own son's death, an intolerable thought. She expects Larry to return, and keeps his room exactly as it was when he left home. She supports Joe's deception. In return she demands his support for her hope that Larry will come back. Ann and her brother, George, have disowned their father, believing him guilty. But George has gone at last to visit his father in jail, and Steve has persuaded him of the true course of events.
The play opens on the following (Sunday) morning; by sheer coincidence, Ann has come to visit the Kellers. For two years, Larry's brother, Chris, has written to her. Now he intends to propose to her, hence the invitation. She is in love with him and has guessed his intention. On the Saturday night there is a storm; a tree, planted as a memorial to Larry, is snapped by the wind. Kate wakes from a dream of Larry and, in the small hours, enters the garden to find the tree broken.

The play has two narrative strands which finally meet. These are:

Chris's and Ann's attempt to persuade Kate that Larry is dead, so they can marry. Joe wishes to support them, but sees that he cannot;
the attempt by George, then by Chris, to find out the truth of what happened in Joe's factory in the autumn of 1943.

A slip of Kate's tongue tells George of Joe's guilt, but he leaves without persuading Chris. Chris and Ann insist on marrying and Joe supports them. This drives Kate (who sees this as a betrayal) to tell Chris the truth. Ann's showing Larry's letter to her convinces Kate that Larry is dead. The letter also answers Joe's repeated question about what he must do, to atone for his crime. He cannot restore life to the dead, but he can give life (free from a sense of moral surrender) back to his living son, Chris.

الفصل الأول
بدأت المسرحية يوم الأحد، في أواخر آب / أغسطس 1946. يقرأ جو كيلر الجريدة بينما يتحدث مع جيرانه، الدكتور جيم بايليس وفرانك لوبى. ويتحدث فرانك عن البرج الفلكى الذى ينتمى له لاري ابن جو، حيث أنه يجمع البيانات عنه من أجل كيت كيلر، زوجة جو. وتظهر كل من سو زوجة جيم، وليديا زوجة فرانك سريعا.
جاءت آن دييفر، جارة عائلة كيلر السابقة لزيارتهم، وتنام بالطابق العلوي. أثناء انتظارها، كان كل من كريس وجو يتحدثان عن شجرة لاري التذكارية التي سقطت أثناء الليل. كان لاري فى عداد المفقودين خلال الحرب العالمية الثانية، ويفترض أنه مات، حيث لم يعد هناك أي اتصال معه منذ أكثر من ثلاث سنوات. لكن تتشبث كيت بالأمل فى عودته، بينما يرى كريس أنه من الخطأ الاستمرار فى التظاهر بهذا من أجلها.
يأتي بيرت ليلعب لعبة السجن مع جو(أوهم كلربيرت الصغير أن هناك حجرة زنزانة تحت بيته - ووعدة أن يعينه ضابط إذا ما أثبت أنه كفئ لذلك ولكى يبين بيرت الصغير أنه يقظ لكل شئ - كان يقول لكلر كل شئ يحدث فى الحى).

(نشعر هنا بوخز الضمير عند كلر - يلعب هذه اللعبة لكى يعرف عما إذا كان الجيران مازالوا يتذكرون ويتكلمون عن جريمته السابقة أم لا)

يعترف كريس لوالده أنه يريد الزواج من آن والتى كانت صديقة لاري قبل ان يذهب للحرب، ونظرا لأن كيت لا تصدق أن لاري قد مات، فهى لا تزال تعتبر آن "صديقة لاري ". وزواج كريس منها يعتبر تأكيدا على وفاة لارى، لذلك يخشى جو من اعتراضها على الزواج.
تدخل كيت وتصف كابوسا رأته الليلة الماضية، حيث رأت لارى يسقط من الطائرة ويصرخ مناديا إياها.فتعارض كريس عندما يقول لها أن عليهم محاولة نسيان لاري. تعترف كيت لجو بشعورها بالشك فى سبب زيارة اّن؛ حيث أن هى أيضا تظن أن لارى لا يزال حيا، وقالت لجو انه يجب غليه أن يظن هكذا هو أيضا. يظهر بيرت ثانية، لكن كيت زجرته.
أخيرا نزلت اّن للجلوس معهم، ويتحدث الجميع عن مدى جمالها، ثم دخلت العئلة فى حوار معا حتى سألت كيت اّن عما إذا كانت لا تزال في انتظار لاري أما لا. فأخبرتها اّن بأنها لم تعد تنتظره، وهنا أدركت لأول مرة كيف كان مدى عمق أمل كيت فى عودته.
تبين أن ستيف دييفر، والد آن، ينال العقوبة عن وفاة 21 طيارا، والذين تحطمت طائرتهم فوق استراليا بسبب الاسطوانة التالفة التى شحنت من مصنع كيلر ودييفر في عام 1943. يصر كيلر على أنها كانت جريمة ستيف، مشيرا إلى أنه نجح فى الطعن في إدانته بهذه الجريمة بينما لا يزال ستيف في السجن. يؤكد كيلر على اقتناع آن بأن والدها مذنب. وقد رفضت آن كل اتصال مع والدها منذ أن فقد لاري، وتصر على أن فعلة والدها قد تكون ذات صلة بوفاة لاري.
بينما كان كريس وآن وحدهما، عبرا عن حبهما لبعضهما البعض، ولكن آن تشعر أن كريس يخفى شىء ما، فطلبت منه أن يخبرها عما يشعر به حتى يكون كل شىء واضح فى علاقتهما. فأخبرها كريس عن فقدان أخيه في الحرب. فهو لا يزال غاضبا بأن الحياة في المنزل استمرت وكأن هذا لم يحدث، مما يعكر عليه فرحته بوجود آن.
يدخل جو ليخبر آن أن شقيقها جورج يتحدث على الهاتف من كولومبوس. قال جو لكريس أنه عليه ألا يخجل من أموال العائلة؛ ثم تدخل آن لتخبرهم أن جورج اّت بعد زيارة والده في السجن للمرة الأولى، و لكن من الواضح أن جو قلق.

الحلم الأميركي

قصة كلهم أبنائى هى نقد للحلم الأميركي. فجو كيلر، يمثل المواطن الأميركي العادي، عاش خلال فترة الكساد وعلى الرغم من نقص التعليم تمكن من امتلاك مصنع ويأمل أن يورثه لابنه. ومع ذلك أدى سعي كيلر وراء المال إلى تسببه فى م*** 21 طيارا أمريكيا.
حقق كيلر 'الحلم الأمريكي' من الناحية الظاهرية، حيث كان يعيش في منزل مريح على الرغم من كونه غير متعلم. حيث يؤكد آرثر ميلر على خواء الحلم الأميركي، وأنه ينبغي أن نفكر فى عواقب أفعالنا. هذه الراحة المادية التي عمل كيلر على توفيرها لأسرته كان عمرها قصير. فأسرته القوية أصبحت وهما، حيث مرضت زوجته(التى نسجت وهما لتعيش فيه) وسخط كريس عليه، أما لاري انتحر نتيجة ضيق أفق أبيه، وقراره الخاطئ. فمن خلال رسالة لاري أدرك كيلر أنه لم ي*** ابنا واحد، لكنه *** أبناء بلده أيضا، وهو ما يؤكده عنوان المسرحية. وفي الختام، أصبح الحلم الأميركي وكأنه الكابوس الأميركي. أظهر كريس مسؤولية أخلاقية في حين أن والده جو أظهر مسؤولية مكثفة تجاه الأسرة.

سمة أخرى تظهر فى كلهم أبنائى وهى التربح في زمن الحرب. نظرا للعقود الكبيرة التى كانت هناك عندما دخلت أميركا الحرب ضد جبهتين، هذا خلق ظروف ملائمة لما وصفه آرثر ميلر بأنه استغلال على نطاق واسع. فجانب من غضب كريس كيلر كان بسبب تفانيه في القتال في الحرب وعلى النقيض من ذلك أنانية جنى المال من الحرب.

أنا مع حضرتك الملف الواحد أسهل لأى متخصص لتنزيله
لكن هدفى من عرض موضوعى هذا (كعمل أدبى) فى هذه الصورة ليس طالب أو مدرس اللغات فقط ولكن أرغب فى المشاركة والتعليقات من الغير متخصصين أيضا
وحضرتك تعلم أن الغير متخصص لن يهتم بتنزيل ملف خاص بأحد فروع الأدب التى تدرس بمدارس اللغات.

1. What is the significance (importance) of the blown down tree?
=What does the broken tree signify in the play?
More than three year ago, Larry Keller was reported missing while flying a US military plane in the war. The tree was planted as a memorial to Larry. Kate thought that the tree was planted too early because she wanted to believe that her son was still alive.
To Kate the tree represented her son. The tree's life and growth gave her hope that her son was still alive somewhere and would still be found and returned home. When that tree was blown down, Kate felt it was a bad omen and didn't feel at ease.

2. Why was Frank working on a horoscope for Larry?

Frank was trying to find a possibility that Larry was missing on a 'favourable day'. According to Frank, nothing bad could happen to someone on their favourable day. Kate refused to believe that her son Larry is dead, and Frank's horoscope is meant to show that Larry couldn't have died on the day he was reported missing.
