had waited لان اصل الجملة مضارع تام لوجود for لذلك تحول الى ماضي تام وليس ماضي بسيط

I think the first is right

the second (will almost certainly be)

دلوقتى المفروض فى الجملة غير المباشر ان الماضى البسيط يتحول الى ماضى تام او يفض زى ماهو لو فعل القول ماضى ومفيش مانع من تحويل الازمنة طيب لو فى سؤال الـ choose جابلى الزمنين مع بعض وفعل القول ماضى ومفيش سبب يمنع من تحويل الزمن اختار ايه
